DAY 1 Cochin, India. Welcome to Cochin, the capital and the gateway to Kerala. Known as ‘the Queen of the Arabian Sea’, Cochin is a vibrant city with many charming attractions for travelers. Your hotel room is available for mid-afternoon check-in. This evening, meet your Local Host for a tasteful culinary tour and dinner featuring local cuisine. (D)

DAY 2 Cochin. Your morning guided tour starts with the Chinese Fishing Nets¬—the livelihood of many local fishermen—and a walk through the Fort Cochin area. Also see Santa Cruz Basilica, the Indo-Portuguese Museum, and Francis Church (home of the Dutch Cemetery). These structures date back to the 1500s and reflect the Portuguese heritage and architecture found in the city. Next, visit the Kerala Folklore Museum which aims to preserve and educate people about the unique culture and heritage of South India. Afternoon at leisure. Tonight, enjoy a spectacular show of Kathakali dance, a traditional form of storytelling, part dance and part mime, distingui shed by the elaborately colorful costumes and masks worn by the dancers. At the theater, meet one of the artists and learn more about this classical art form firsthand. (B)

DAY 3 Cochin–Munnar. This morning, settle in for a beautiful scenic drive through mountains and valleys to Munnar, famous for its tea, spices, and hills dotted with lush green tea plantations. Along the way, stop at Attukad Falls and Pothamedu viewpoint. On arrival in Munnar, sample traditional Kerala cuisine for lunch. Later, enjoy a Kalaripayattu performance, one of the oldest martial arts forms in the world that originated in Kerala. (B,L,D)

DAY 4 Munnar. Today’s full day tour takes you to the very places for which Munnar is known. First, learn about the area’s spice industry at a local spice plantation, then travel high into the Kolukkumalai hills to visit the highest tea plantation in the world. Owing to the altitude, the tea here possesses a special flavor and freshness and sought world over. As you ascend, you’ll also witness majestic views and stunning gardens, adding to this remarkable experience. Return to Munnar where the remainder of the day is at your leisure. (B,L)

DAY 5 Munnar–Kumarakom. Travel to Kumarakom, located on the shores of Vembanad Lake. A picturesque cluster of islands along the backwater of Kerala, Kumarakom is a peaceful retreat amidst emerald green waters laced with luxurious palm trees. Stop at St Mary Church, built in 1579, then spot rare migratory birds at the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, before arriving at your tranquil waterfront resort this afternoon. Perhaps indulge in a traditional Ayurvedic massage or simply relax by the pool. (B)

DAY 6 Kumarakom. Board your houseboat this morning for an unforgettable cruise on the backwaters of Kerala. As you drift along, enjoy authentic local food, explore local life along the waterways, and marvel at the beauty of Kerala’s backwaters. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. (B,L)

DAY 7 Kumarakom–Cochin. Your vacation ends with a transfer to Cochin International Airport. Please schedule flights after 11:30am. (B)
