Your journey starts in Bagdogra, our gateway to Sikkim. Travel northeast to Gangtok located in the eastern Himalayas, where you’ll see the glacial Tsomgo Lake and be one of the lucky few to drive along the incredible Nathula Pass. You’ll experience the Tibetan influence on the city with visits to the Rumtek Monastery, the Institute of Tibetology, and Do-Drol Stupa. You’ll also learn how to make local beer, interact with the local cottage industry, and stop and smell the beautiful seasonal flowers of the area.

Stop for a visit in Temi to Sikkim’s only tea garden, then travel to Ravangla to visit Buddha Park. Continue on to Pelling, nestled high in the west Sikkim hillsides. Savor Sikkimese cuisine, walk along India’s first glass skywalk, be inspired by the architectural marvel of Singshore bridge, and visit the famous Pemayangtze Monastery. You’ll also see spectacular views, waterfalls and lakes in this naturally impressive town.

Travel to Kaluk, a small town offering fantastic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, and gain insight into village life before arriving in Darjeeling, famous for its distinctive black tea. Known as the Queen of Himalayas, Darjeeling is home to rolling hills, lush green tea plantations, and majestic mountain peaks. Your hotel is a historic tea estate, where a local guide shows you the process of tea farming and production. Take a ride on the iconic Darjeeling toy train, visit Ghoom Monastery, delight in mesmerizing views from Tiger Hill, and sip high tea in the historic town.

ITINERARY AND MEALS

DAY 1 Bagdogra–Gangtok, India. Welcome to Bagdogra. Meet your driver and travel north to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Tonight, meet your Local Host for a beer-making course and dinner. (D)
Note: Please schedule flight to arrive by 1pm. The drive time between Bagdogra to Gangtok is approximately 4 ½ hours.

DAY 2 Gangtok. Excursion to Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass. Journey high into the mountains east of the city to the glacial Tsomgo Lake, before a visit to Baba Mandir. Then, travel along beautiful Nathula Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in the world. This historic pass forms part of an offshoot of the Old Silk Route. Return to Gangtok, where the evening is at leisure. (B)
Note: Itinerary is subject to weather conditions. Nathula Pass is closed during the winter months.

DAY 3 Gangtok. Travel outside of the city to Rumtek Monastery, the largest in Sikkim. The Tibetan-style monastery was built on the side of a hill facing Gangtok, which allows for wonderful views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Then, visit the Institute of Tibetology to learn about the history and culture of the Tibetan cultural area, and see the nearby Do-Drol Chorten, the Tibetan golden stupa which can be seen from all areas of the city. Later, explore the Flower Exhibition Center, and then get a glimpse into the region’s cottage industry, developed for both preservation and expansion of traditional arts and crafts of Sikkim. (B)

DAY 4 Gangtok–Ravangla–Pelling. This morning, travel west to Ravangla, and along the way stop in Temi for a visit to Sikkim’s only tea garden. Then, visit the Buddha Park of Ravangla, featuring a 130-foot high statue of the Buddha as its centerpiece. Continue to Pelling, and savor local Sikkimese cuisine for dinner. (B,D)

DAY 5 Pelling. A full day of sightseeing awaits you today. First, visit the famous Pemayangtze Monastery, built as a three-storied structure in 1705. Walk along India’s first glass skywalk, which offers impressive views of the Himalayas as well as the rivers below. Also visit Rimbi Waterfalls and Khecheopalri Lake, known as the “wish fulfilling lake” and a sacred site for Hindus and Buddhists. Later, see the Singshore suspension bridge, an architectural marvel that connects the two gorges in west Sikkim. (B)

DAY 6 Pelling–Darjeeling. This morning, visit Kaluk, a quaint village with rich history, culture, and natural beauty, located in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas. Continue to Darjeeling in West Bengal, famed for its distinctive black tea. Your hotel tonight is a historic tea estate set in the rolling hills. (B)

DAY 7 Darjeeling. Your tour of the estate’s tea garden includes a demonstration of the tea-making process, followed by a tasting. Visit Tiger Hill, which affords a panoramic view of both Mount Everest and Mount Kanchenjunga together. Take a train journey on the iconic Himalayan railway, and then enjoy high tea in the historic town. The evening is yours to enjoy at leisure. (B,L)

DAY 8 Darjeeling–Bagdogra. Your vacation ends with a transfer to Bagdogra International Airport. Please schedule flights after 1pm. (B)
